Michael , Sujan, Noah, Nikodem, Laila, lexi, Olivia, Diamond, Julia, Kane

  • We want to make sure all classes have the correct bins and signage.
  • Create activities for classes so they know what to put in each bin.
  • We want outdoor bins and we will monitor where rubbish is outside to help us decide where to place the bins.
  • We want to make a video to tell the school who we are and what our action plan is.
  • We want to create a video to show in assembly of the correct bins to use/ not use in the dining hall.
  • We want to do litter picking outside while we wait for outdoor bins to help reduce waste outside.
  • We want to visit another school to see how they do waste management and outdoor learning.

Meeting 07/01/2026

  • We talked about the bins we have in the school. We want everyone to have the same ones.
  • We decided to go around all the spaces and classrooms and remove the small grey bins.
  • We realised a lot of the purple bin lids were broken so we removed them from all classrooms too.
  • We planned an introduction assembly and decided who wanted to talk at it. We want to tell everybody a little bit about what we have been doing in our group and introduce ourselves.
  • We realised we were not using the giant green bins in each wing correctly so we removed these for now until we can tell everyone how to use them.
  • At assembly on Monday, we will tell everyone what goes in each bin. Paper goes in the grey bin and everything else goes in the purple bin.

Meeting 14/01/26

  • Some of the recycling bins we ordered have arrived. We gave them to each class that needed them.
  • We labelled the base of each bin with the number of the room it belongs to.
  • We checked each room in the school again to ensure they all now have a purple and grey bin.
  • We returned the purple bin lids to classrooms.

Meeting 21/01/2026

  • The recycling and general waste stickers arrived so we placed these on the bins around the school.
  • We began creating a video to help the classes understand what items belong in each bin. We used the P7 iPads to video and create an iMovie. We will edit this and upload it to Clickview. We will make it interactive and add questions to ask while classes are watching the movie.
  • We can share this movie with classes and airplay it from our iPads to the screens in each classroom.

Meeting 28/01/2026

  • We put more recycling stickers on the grey bins.
  • We were interested in knowing how the school was doing with their recycling. We shared what we have seen in our own classrooms. We went around the school to check the number of bins contaminated overall.
  • We wondered at what part of the day the contamination gets worse, after break or after lunch. We decided to interview our school janitor who collects the recycling bins at the end of the school day to find out more information.

Meeting 04/03/26

  • P3 shared how to use the clipboard to check the bins after break and after lunch to begin to see how our school is doing with recycling correctly.
  • We shared out the rest of the clipboard to the reps to complete over the week. We will report back next week.
  • We wondered how the bins are collected at the end of the school day and how many are contaminated. We would like to interview our janitor next week to find out more.

Meeting 23/05/2026

  • We discussed our data from the bin usage in our classrooms. There was no contamination in the bins the past few weeks.
  • We measured the environmental garden to help us plan to improve our planting space.
